Stormy Sunday … but Cairnhill wins 4-1 !

Pictures of the day:

”Rain, rain, go away! Come again on another day!”

Thats the call, yet it didnt stopped the stormy weather! However, Cairhill FC still managed to win 4-1 @ St.Wilfred!

1st half was almost unplayable, but the boys got their bodies blardy wet! We got our first goal in this friendly when i crossed from a corner to the head of Gervais! What a finish! 2nd half was something i and Faiz have been waiting for so long: to play together in the centre of midfield! And yes, we really managed to pull the strings and launched attacks after attacks! Despite the opponent equalising early in the 2nd period, we kept attacking them non-stop! Ming really silenced his critics and proved that he can create a major impact by netting 2 goals! His first was a left footed opportunistic shot that the keeper spilled and smashed into the net! His second was created by myself and Jage who creatively found Ming just inside the penalty box. Ming still had a lot to do with 2 defenders closing down on him, but he faked a shot and side-footed the ball into the bottom right corner. Salem got his goal earlier after the opponent keeper strangely passed the ball to him straight from a goal kick! haha… of course, our target man slotted the ball in the goal with ease and with a smile! Really enjoyed the partnership with Faiz, hopefully we will have more chance to play with each other again.

Baby joined us during the half time and later, we proceeded to KFC for Brunch and then to town with Kiran, Jage and Sheik! We went Wisma as i purchased the playstation network card that i thought will delight me, ming, faiz and Baby by downloading new songs for Singstar! To my horror, the Singstore (Asia) is still not ready for purchases! Sharks!

Baby, me, Ming and Faiz then went to enjoyed an hour of pool session before we had a really superb dinner at Lucky Plaza. What a fantastic day! I really enjoyed my time with everyone. I forgot that i was down with fever the last 2 days! haha…

Lastly, i really want to thank all of you who have been patronizing my website. I hope you guys have something nice to view or read here. Have a nice day! :)

Redbacks Drew again 2-2! Win-less for 8 games counting…

With only 3 games left for the season, Redbacks came looking for a win. Unfortunately, we only managed a draw.

Ming managed to get Ayat and i managed to get Wan Bear and Din (my former team mates from Warriors) for this match. Not sure if they will wanting to stick with us, but i hope they enjoyed playing the match.

Sorry brothers, my camera ran out of battery and only produced little pictures. However, i managed to get some video highlights of the 2nd half which i will post on a later date.

Another match which i find myself getting more attached to my fellow redbacks brothers. It’s been a long time ever since i feel a sense of belonging in a soccer team. After Mersing, i find myself always looking forward to play footie with you guys. I have somehow been trying to learn from Azhar in terms of how to protect ourselves from getting injured by opponents’ tackles.

Very lucky to be able to net 2 goals in the game. Thanks to everyone for the team effort! Without you guys, i wont be able to contribute. I was especially touched when Ayat was fouled and the rest asked me to take the spot-kick instead.

Cant wait for the next game. Cant wait to play with Redbacks again…

Oh ya, thanks to Nureen for all the pictures. Faiz was OUT due to virus… hehe..

First Loss for Cairnhill but heads up!

Cairnhill are up against Admirals, a young team averaging 18yrs old. Despite their young age, they were technically, physically and mentally better than us. We defended really well almost the entire game and it only took one lapse of concentration for the opponents to score the only goal of the game. Yes, we lost our first game and many of Cairnhill’s core players were visibly upset and shaken after the game.

Two words: HEADS UP!

Yes, we must take this loss and learn from it.

If we want to fight for the championship, then we must remember this game that we lost. I have nothing but only praise for the entire defence. Kiran and Lawrence were outstanding with committed fullbacks running their hearts out defending and attacking too! Iskander certainly proved his quality by keeping out many shots and including one early penalty in the first half. But as a team, we must play well as a unit. Next game will be our chance for redemption.

Credit to Jason, he summed up the teamtalk afterwards pretty well. The Gaffer knows he needs to sort out the team play. I believe in the players at Cairnhill. Despite coming up against technically better opponents, the players always give their best effort. The challenge is how to improve together as a team. Roles need to be clear for all players and the core players will need to communicate and help to achieve goals for the team.

No doubt that it will take time. But the question is: With lots of passion and commitment, are we able to re-discover our style of play and improve it game by game?

Soccer for thought

As i am watching a soccer match between Spurs and Roma…. i wonder how to conquer the midfield area?

Often, i was deployed as an attacking midfielder in a 4-4-2 formation. So, the 4 midfielders will play in a diamond formation. But, depending on how good our opponents were, i will naturally drop back to give my defensive midfielder more support. Although i am not as fast and fit as i want myself to be at the age of 27yrs old, i always make it a point to drop back.

What happens if you have a defensive mid that doesnt do his role and keeps on attacking? The main focus here is between the 2 centre midfielders. Flat or diamond, both of these players need to communicate and play well together for the whole team. In social football, people might brush off my thoughts for in-depth tactics and gameplay. But i wish to learn more and play better if i were to play there in future.

It’s pure frustration when you play defensive midfield, and you lack support from the rest of the midfielders. Having to chase after everyone also single-handedly? Even the great legends of Ruud Gullit, Maradona or Micheal Laudrup cant do it on their own. So guys, what is your output on this?

Movement on-and-off the ball is so vital for the team. It helps to open up spaces for the team to exploit. When i get to play against veteran teams, especially against those skilful Malay uncles… i love to watch how they play football. One-two touches of football. Simple, smart, experienced and such a delight to watch!

David Bentley just scored a cracker of a goal! Though he is a right winger, he is certainly able to score goals as well as crossing for the team. How did Liverpool miss out on such a player? Sigh… i look forward to encourage my wingers to shoot more when possible. Train your shooting, crossing and become a more dangerous player!

Mersing Trip With Redbacks

Picture says a thousand words

Stressed up with School assignments…!

This week alone, i have 4 assignments due…. one presentation done and over yesterday night… now need to complete 2 of my Overdued assignments to hand in tomorrow….

No blame attached to anyone else but me, i only started school when the school is already 3 weeks ahead already. In the process, instead of doing assignments in pairs, i only have myself to do everything. All because i was on a month’s notice with my previous employer, McDonald’s.

I have the time to do my work, and yet to adapt to full time schooling. I find myself on my study table 80% of the time when i am at home. I rarely touched my PS3 to play my games, which is weird for me. I only listened to songs from it now.

I have some pictures to share while i had some nice shots while i had more time to play with my new past time : Cam- whoring!

Cant wait for Saturday as Redbacks will be going to Mersing for a Friendly Match. It will be my 2nd time going overseas for a soccer match. This time, Faiz will be joining me, Nureen and Ming too! Will take lots of pictures and hopefully have a great time there!

Thai Lesson Before Mersing Trip!

Redbacks were up against a Thai Team that were technically and physically better than us. Strangely, i didnt feel that upset after my second match though we lost by 4 goals.

I played striker for slightly over an hour and was deployed as attacking midfielder in the later stages. The Redbacks Brothers are so encouraging and warm that even losing 0-4, it seemed everyone enjoyed our time together. After the game, we were briefed by Azam, our team manager regarding this Saturday’s Mersing Trip.

Really so excited by the trip. Had Dinner at AMK KFC and had really good time with Baby, Faiz, Ming and Hazirah. Thanks Baby for the pictures once again. You are so fun and nice to be around me.

Enjoy the pictures!

Frustration…

Played 2 matches yesterday.

First up, played for Cairnhill against Beercelona at MJC. Was really frustrated with the team not being able to play our own game. Despite the opponents being taller and bigger in size, Cairnhill could have done much better as technically, we are more than capable to take them on. Instead, we played their agressive game or hit and run. Being deployed as a central midfield with Jon, i communicated to him that he needs to keep things simple as a defensive midfielder. Sadly to say, Jon seemed to only think of attacking for the team. So, i had to drop deep instead. To make matters worse, the team somehow decided to by-pass the centre midfield and kept going through the flanks.

During half time, i vented my anger and showed evryone that i was absolutely outraged by the lack of service and trust in me. Unhealthy they called it, but to me, my only purpose was to take charge of the engine room and to signal to all that we are simply not playing football the best we can. Also, i need the team to realise that if we were to play football like the way we show yesterday, then it will be a tough call for the title. In the process, we were unable to keep decent possession and had no control in the game play. On a bright note, we managed to win the game 1-0. Courtesy of a goal by Perry.

I must comment of the commitment and passion of the team that never say die and certainly that was what won us the game. However, i have no hard feelings towards any of them. But what i cannot deny after the team talk, such outburst are unacceptable for this team and it is peceived as ”unhealthy”. But i believed i have the right to react the way i did and it’s purely from my heart and my heart says i am doing it for the team. Not for just this match, but also for the future matches.

After the game, i guess i need to consider my decision to stay with Cairnhill F.C. or not. It feels the same when i was playing with Ben’s Team 2-3 years ago, put in centre midfield as they expected me to do ‘magic’. The truth is, no matter how good a playmaker is, the whole team must trust him to bring out the style of play from everyone. Micheal Ballack and Frank Lampard of Chelsea, Paul Scholes of Manchester United, Stevie Gerrard of Liverpool, they are the players that the team trust and always pass them the ball and listening to their directions. Technically and much more experienced, they also have the talent of influencing the team’s gameplay. So, what happens when these players dont get the ball often? You can guess the rest…

My role of Cairnhill F.C is to share my experience with the players and guide them to grow as players. I was given the responsibility to take charge of the team on-field and i gladly took it. People judge me on what happened yesterday, which in the end result in us winning 1-0. I played the whole game, much of it, i had to run back and cover defensively. When i was upfront, i was isolated. 1st half, frustrated… now, come to think of it, it’s sad. Maybe some of the players dislike me barking and shouting at them. None of them are personal, it’s business. My business is playing the beautiful game and you guys are the main stars of the team when we win, certainly not me, i am just the one pushing you and orchestrating the play in accordance to the situation we need to. I only play the person behind-the-scene.

I will be considering if i will still be continuing the season with Cairnhill. I guess it will serve me better if i just stick to one team at a time. :)
